The Evolution of Gossip

This new age of super-phones and unrestricted access to the internet has brought with it many changes. Something that I’ve really appreciated is the ready access to the Word of God and teaching by gifted children of God. This interconnectivity has born something I just recently caught on to. Internet Gossip.

There seems to be a perceived disconnect between gossip and gossiping online. Maybe because of the fact that everyone can see it? Maybe because it’s not “said” but typed? Maybe just because we all have a front row seat into the lives of each other and nearly every celebrity.

Have you ever perused Twitter or Facebook and seen how many people are talking about celebs and their friends? Not to celebs and their friends, but aboutThat’s the difference. I feel comfortable saying that the majority of these comments would not fall under the mandate of Ephesians 4:29 which says, “Let no corrupt (or unwholesome) talk come out of your mouth (or maybe your keyboard?), but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear (or read it).”

I want you to know, dear brothers and sisters, that I am not exempt from this, but as the Lord has just brought this to my attention I now invite you to walk with me and keep me accountable. This is an issue that must be addressed.

Proverbs 6:16-19, “There are six things that the Lord hates, seven that are an abomination to him: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked plans, feet that make haste to run to evil, a false witness who breathes out lies and one who sows discord among brothers.”

Have you done these in the past week? How about on Facebook or Twitter?

Just some thoughts from a sanctified sinner,
