That’s what I wondered when our teacher brought it up in class this week. A photovoltaic (PV) system is the conversion of sunlight directly into DC power. In words that I understand better, using solar panels to create electricity.
In class this week we learned the basics of how this system works, and the different types of panels out there that are recommended for missionary (mono-crystalline, poly-crystalline, and amorphous silicon panels).
During Jungle Camp this summer, car batteries will be the source of power for our house, but we will need to use solar panels to recharge our batteries so we need to learn how to use them and take care of them!
Here’s a picture of (most of) our class during our PV System lab, checking out the solar panels that we’ll be moving and using in Jungle Camp. Pretty cool!
