This was Israel’s hope.
In the gospels we clearly see Jesus fulfill a multitude of the Old Testmanet prophesies of a Messiah.
Isaiah 53:5,6, “Surely He has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows; yet we esteemed Him stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted. But He was wounded for our transgressions; He was crushed for our iniquities; upon Him was the chatisement that brought us peace, and with His stripes we are healed. “
Song of the Day:
For Unto Us a Child is Born
performed by London Symphony Orchestra
written by Handel in 1741
*background on Handel’s Messiah*
“Handel, upon reading these Scriptures from the Old and New Testaments (compiled by a friend) (August, 1741) was overcome by their power. The music began dancing and exploding within him. He immediately shut himself in and worked night and day, often forgetting to eat. The servants could, from time to time, hear his sobs as he labored over the inspired text. He finished the original libretto and score in twenty-four days. A complete musical performance requires nearly three hours; the Scripture texts, thirty minutes.” (1)
For unto us a Child is born,
Unto us a Son is given,
And the government shall be upon His shoulder;
And His name shall be called
The Mighty God,
The Everlasting Father,
The Prince of Peace.
