Come, Thou Long Expected Jesus

eleven days

God continued throughout the history of man to remind them of the promise that He made, to send a Savior. He made specific promises to specific people;

God promised Abraham offspring in his old age, and blessed him in Genesis 12:2-3 saying,”And I will make of you a great nation, and I will bless you and make your name great, so that you will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and him who dishonors you I will curse, and in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.

To David God promised that his offspring will reign forever as king. 2 Samuel 2:12-17, “…I will raise up your offspring after you, who shall come from your body, and I will establish his kingdom. He shall build a house for my name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever. I will be to him a father, and he shall be to me a son…And your house and your kingdom shall be made sure forever before me. Your throne shall be established forever.

Today’s Song:

Come Thou Long Expected Jesus
by Charles Wesley,
written in 1774

Come, Thou long expected Jesus
Born to set Thy people free;
From our fears and sins release us,
Let us find our rest in Thee.
Israel’s Strength and Consolation,
Hope of all the earth Thou art;
Dear Desire of every nation,
Joy of every longing heart.

Born Thy people to deliver,
Born a child and yet a King,
Born to reign in us forever,
Now Thy gracious kingdom bring.
By Thine own eternal Spirit
Rule in all our hearts alone;
By Thine all sufficient merit,
Raise us to Thy glorious throne.
